1. Title: “Heritage and Landscapes Futures” Blended Intensive Programme is organised by University of Antwerp, Antwerp Cultural Heritage Sciences (ARCHES) Research Group.

a. Discuss the relevance of heritage landscapes and heritage planning to major 21st-century societal challenges including the spatial turn; democratisation; digital transformation; shifting demographics; and environmental change.
b. Explain the principles of Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) and Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) as research strategies.
c. Analyse career opportunities for graduates with expertise in heritage landscapes and heritage planning.
d. Identify trends, strengths and weaknesses in heritage planning research, education and policy.
e. Evaluate the main insights you have derived from the module for your own academic studies and professional career.
4. Methods and outcome
Hands-on training sessions: three half days, dedicated to Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) and Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) and Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA)
Interactive workshops: one half day, exploring the societal relevance of heritage planning research.
Excursions: self-directed and guided excursions in and around Antwerp
Key note lectures: prominent international experts lecturing on the interplay between heritage planning and major societal challenges
Networking event: meet potential employers from academia and other sectors
Agenda setting: round-table sessions exploring the future of heritage planning research, education and policy

Online assignment: review texts and videos related to heritage planning in relation to one of the societal challenges central to the module
Blog post assignment: write a Blog post (between 1000 and 1250 words) about an aspect of the module in relation to your own academic studies and/ or professional career. A selection of Blog posts will be disseminated through the Heriland Blog
