IDLab (Internet technology and Data science Lab, UAntwerpen-imec) is an imec research group embedded within the University of Antwerp, and delivers connected intelligence for a sustainable future.
Our research focuses on two core pillars: Connected Systems and Artificial Intelligence. We develop technologies for fully autonomous AI-driven networks, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), and trustworthy, explainable and industry-relevant AI.
The Connected Systems pillar focuses on end-to-end networks, from the smallest end-node sensor to satellites. We work on the future 6G network of networks, service-based architectures, end-to-end zero-touch network and service management, digital twins for networks, guaranteeing Quality on Demand (QoD). In addition, we research how the available dense wireless infrastructure can be used for perception, positioning, and Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC).
The AI pillar focuses on adaptive intelligence and graph-based AI, using end-to-end reinforcement learning (RL), physics-informed neural networks, or distributed perception to allow agents to adapt to changing environments with industry-grade, trustworthy AI. We also conduct fundamental research on the learning processes behind AI systems, addressing model opaqueness and high use of resources.
With over 500 active collaborations with innovative industry partners and using specialized testbeds and deep domain expertise, we transform complex data into actionable solutions for advanced manufacturing, chemistry, finance, transport and logistics, massive Internet-of-Things, connected mobility, and sustainable energy.
