On 24 April 2026, a dissemination event of the Re-Empower project (funded by VLIR-UOS) took place at the University of Antwerp. The programme included three themes: the dissemination of PhD empirical findings on the Role of Customs and Traditions in Addressing Child Marriages in Tanzania: A Human Rights-Based Approach by Esther Lucas Kayamba, Implementing Climate Change Legal Regimes as a Mitigating Tool to Child Marriage in Tanzania by Agripina Mbilinyi, and a lecture on the Validation of Research Findings based on a Case Study from Uganda by Prof Sofie Vindeogel from the Ghent University.
The Re-Empower project is funded through VLIR-UOS and carried out jointly by the Law and Development Research Group of the Faculty of Law at the University of Antwerp and the Faculty of Law at Mzumbe University in Tanzania. The project focuses on overcoming socioeconomic and environmental risk factors for child marriage in Tanzania through a positive engagement with customs and traditions.
