Abstract

With this research we intend to study the impact foreign trade exerted upon the eighteenth-century economic development of the Austrian Netherlands. On the basis of documents generated by the Council of Finance (Department of Custom Duties) a comprehensive reconstruction and interpretation of the foreign trade and foreign trade policy is envisaged.

Construction of a "Bell-20 index" for all stock quoted shares on the Brussel Stock Exchange during the period 1832-2005. Comparison with the returns on the Belgian Banking sector, the risk free rate and the all share index and other portfolios. 01/10/2006 - 31/12/2008

Abstract

The project has practical objectives and aims at calculating a "BEL-20 index" (capital gain as well as total return index) for the period 1832-2005 for the Brussels Stock Exchange. These indices will be compared with returns calculated for the risk free rate, for the banking sector, for the all share index and other portfolios of the Brussels Stock Exchange for the same period. By doing so a brand new benchmark will be available for a long historical period.

Historical review of the Flemish Economic Association. 01/05/2000 - 30/09/2000

        Abstract

The Vlaams Economisch Verbond (Flemish Economic Association), the organization representing employers in Flanders, will in 2001 span 75 ears of the emancipation history of the Flanders. The history of this organisation, which was founded in 1926 on the initiative of the industrialist Lieven Gevaert, is closely intertwined with the socio-economic réveil of Flanders. The research project wants to investigate how the VEV, in the decades following the Second World War, and in interplay with the economc, social, cultural and societal landscape, has grown into an efficient and officially acknowledged Flemish socail partner. More specifically, attention will a.o. go to: the VEV's key-role in the regionalization of economic policy; its fight for the use of Dutch in the busines community; its strategic role in several state reforms; its protection of the communal interests of Flemisch companies in the socia-economic debate; the development of the VEV-organization, the VEV-group and the VEV-communication channels.
