Choosing your courses
Each year, you will register for 60 ECTS credits (deviations between 54 and 66 ECTS credits are possible). The larger part of your first year consists mostly of compulsory courses. During the first semester, you'll decide on your optional courses, as well as the subject for your Master project. However, these two components are largely undertaken in the second year of the Master programme.
Take a look at the curriculum for an overview of all courses. Be aware that most elective courses are offered in alternating years: some in even academic years (e.g., 2026–2027) and others in odd academic years (e.g., 2027–2028).
Choose between 'Research' or 'Management and Entrepreneurship' option
You can include the option ‘Management & Entrepreneurship’ during your master. This option contains courses such as innovation, business communication, financial management and process management. However, it is only taught in Dutch.
The option ‘Research’ consists of an individual research project and gives you to opportunity to subscribe to more optional courses.
Admission requirements
As a prospective Global Change Biology student, you should be able to demonstrate:
- A strong scientific background
- Profound knowledge of plants, animals and other organisms
- Extensive apprehension of ecology
- Proficiency in English
Research in the programme
During your Master programme, you will be trained in a variety of research methods, both via the practical and theoretical courses as well as through specific courses on skills relevant for global change biology. Laboratory skills are highly important and trained during a 12 ECTS course.
