Academic quality

All summer or winter schools consist of intensive full-time programmes in which a wide variety of teaching methods are used, ranging from lectures, workshops and debates to visits and seminars. Sessions are taught by (inter)national speakers and experts from both within and outside the academic world. For some programmes, participants are required to do some preparatory readings or take an examination/make an assignment at the end of the course. An intensive learning experience with maximum impact is guaranteed thanks to the international composition of the classroom, the interactive set-up of the courses and the approachability of the lecturers.

Language of instruction

English is the language of instruction of all programmes within Antwerp Summer and Winter University. As active participation is compulsory in all summer/winter schools, English proficiency in reading, speaking and writing is  required.

Credits and certificates

All courses offered at Antwerp Summer and Winter University are approved by the Educational Board of the University of Antwerp. ECTS credits are awarded for successful completion of the programmes. Within the context of lifelong learning initiatives in Euopean higher education, all certificates of completion are issued as a micro-credential. The number of credits varies between summer or winter schools. Recognition of credits in the home curriculum should be agreed upon with the home institution. It is the participant's responsibility to do so. In this regard, a course information sheet can be provided for each summer or winter school.

Students are expected to attend all classes, complete all exercises and sit for final examinations (if applicable). Students who attend at least 90% of the classes will receive a certificate of attendance. Moreover, students who pass the evaluation will receive a certificate of successful completion.
