- Are you stressing out?
- Are you afraid that you won’t be able to keep up with your studies?
- Are you struggling with yourself?
- Are you feeling down after a break-up?
- Do you feel stuck?
- Are you being bullied?
Don’t keep your worries to yourself! Take a look at the services offered by the student psychologists at the University of Antwerp.
All students of the University of Antwerp enrolled in a bachelor, master, advanced master, preparatory or bridging program, can contact the student psychologists. Doctoral students are welcome for a limited number of exploratory sessions.
Students contact the student psychologists for various reasons. There doesn’t have to be something "seriously wrong" with you to consult a student psychologist! Stress symptoms, fear of failure, procrastination, depressed feelings, insecurity and loneliness are common issues. Do you have a psychiatric problem? Have you been confronted with transgressive behavior? Then contact us, so that we can find the most suitable support for you together.
We offer material to get you started by yourself. If you feel like you can use more support, you can follow a training in a large or small group or make an appointment for individual counseling. More details about the range of services of the student psychologists can be found on Blackboard. Or contact STIP!
If you prefer to work autonomously and at your own pace, you can use the workbooks of the student psychologists or the digital platform 'Studying without Worrying'. You can request additional support from a student psychologist at any time.
Would you rather receive help in person? In small groups of students, the student psychologists organize tips & tricks sessions and workshops on various themes, both online and on campus (only in Dutch): dealing with stress, fear of failure or procrastination. Tips & tricks are single sessions that are mainly aimed at providing information. Workshops, on the other hand, take place several times in a small group of the same students, and besides informing, their main focus is on strengthening your skills. More details about the tips & tricks sessions and the workshops can be found on Blackboard (only in Dutch). Or contact STIP!
Do you have a specific question that requires a customized approach? Then make an appointment for individual counseling online or on campus. First, the student psychologist will explore which questions you have and what type of support you need. Next, counseling can be aimed at gaining insight, learning extra skills or making personal change. A counseling session takes about 45 minutes. The number of sessions is not fixed in advance, but many students can continue on their own again after a few sessions. Sometimes long-term counseling is necessary and the student psychologist can refer you to more specialized help outside the university.
Student psychologists can be found on the City Campus (buildings E and S), Campus Groenenborger (building S) and Campus Drie Eiken (building G). You can choose on which campus you want to attend a tips & tricks session, workshop or individual counseling. Of course student psychologists are also to be found online!
The full range of services of the student psychologists is free for students, with the exception of the workbooks and some workshops where a fee is charged for the course material used.
All aspects of your participation in psychological counseling are confidential by law. The student psychologists will not tell your parents, friends or teachers about your participation in psychological counseling. The student psychologists can extend confidentiality only with your explicit consent or in case serious and foreseeable harm to you or others is evident. What you say to a student psychologist has no consequences for your study, even if you have done something that is against the rules.
All staff members have been professionally trained in psychology and/or psychotherapy.
If you need urgent psychological help and for some reason you cannot reach a student psychologist (weekend, closing day, …), you can contact your GP or the GP on call. You can reach the general practitioners and pharmacists on call at 0900 10 512.
