Short bio
I work as a tenure-track professor at the Department of Applied Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting Studies at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where I teach courses related to Translation & Interpreting Studies and consecutive and simultaneous interpreting French-Dutch.
My research activities include publications for renown journals (e.g., Translation Studies, The Interpreter’s Newsletter) and prestigious publishing companies (e.g., Routledge, John Benjamins, Peter Lang), participation in scientific conferences (e.g., 2025, 11th European Society for Translation Studies congress), editorship in the field of translation and interpreting studies (e.g., chief editor Linguistica Antverpiensia – New Series: Themes in Translation Studies; edited volume Interactional dynamics in remote interpreting: Micro-analytical approaches, Routledge, 2024) and academic reviews (e.g., Meta, Perspectives). I have also been a member of several doctoral juries.
I maintain an active national and international research network as expressed by my activities as a member of the research group TricS (Translation, interpreting & cultural Studies) and involvement in academic and societal institutions, that is, as a board member and secretary of ENPSIT (European Network Public Service Interpreting and Translation), member of EST (European Society for Translation Studies), including the EST newsletter team. Next to that, I am team leader Competences at KCTI (Knowledge Center for Translation and Interpretation, European Commission) and president of the specialization commission at RTGS, the Dutch Register for sign language and speech-to-text interpreters. I am also a member of the Special Interest Group “AI in Translation & Interpreting studies” of the European Language Council. Recently (2025), I became a member of the International Community Translation Research Group which brings together scholars from different continents.
I regularly share my academic insights with society by means of (international) guest lectures for universities and professionals (e.g., 2023: Webinar “Investigating VRI: Applications and implications for interpreter trainers, students, and practitioners” for the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (USA), consultancy (e.g., 2019, Atlas, Antwerp), editorials (e.g., 2024, Cadecues, publication of the Medical Division of the American Translators Association), podcasts and interviews (e.g., 2025, It’s You; 2020, Dutch Association of Interpreters and Translators).
Previously, I worked as a sworn interpreter and translator (French-German-Dutch) in the Netherlands.
