Traineeship
At the Faculty of Science, we only offer research internships.
Erasmus+ Trainees cannot register for courses. Information for Erasmus+ Study Exchange students is available here.
Step 1: Finding an Erasmus+ Internship
Start by taking a look at our research groups.
In case you want to get more information on research possibilities in physiology, biochemistry or molecular biology before you arrive, you can contact prof Han Asard.
When you have found a research group/researcher you are interested in, you can contact them directly to find out if they have a vacancy for an Erasmus+ trainee. We cannot guarantee all requests can be accommodated.
In your email to the research group/researcher, you make sure to add the following information:
- A short motivation letter
- A resume of your relevant previous knowledge and activities
- The period during which you preferably would do the Erasmus+ internship
- The required duration of the Erasmus+ internship
- In which phase of the Erasmus+ selection procedure from your home university you currently are (e.g. you have been awarded the Erasmus+ Traineeship grant; you will be awarded the grant once you have confirmation of the internship; you do not have a grant yet but are looking at your options, ...)
Tip: Be as concrete as possible in your proposal (topics, dates, ...) and make sure you mention it would be an Erasmus+ internship.
Once you and the research group have agreed on your Erasmus+ internship, you can proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Submit your application
Complete the Learning Agreement for Traineeships together with your assigned supervisor.
CHECK OUT OUR VIDEO ON MAKING A LEARNING AGREEMENT FOR TRAINEESHIPS
The Learning Agreement for Traineeships formalises the arrangements that you’ve made and safeguards the quality of your placement. It describes your tasks, the knowledge and skills you will acquire, the arrangements that have been made regarding monitoring and evaluation, etc.
The agreement must be signed by yourself, your home institution and the relevant international coordinator at the University of Antwerp before the start of your work placement. It is designed to guarantee admission at the University of Antwerp and full recognition of your placement at your home institution.
Please note: If you participate in an Erasmus placement you must be properly insured by the workplace accident insurance from your home institution, not by UAntwerp. Therefore, all boxes in the training agreement should be checked as insured by the home institution, not by UAntwerp.
You then send the completed agreement to the Faculty of Science International Office. After a check of the agreement and academic admission you will then receive a link to commence the online application process through Mobility Online.
You will receive your official admission letter when the application procedure is completed.
No applications will be processed during the months July and August. Please mind the deadlines!
- EEA-students should submit their application to the Faculty of Science International Office at least 2 months before the start of the internship.
- Non-EEA students must do this at least 4 months before the start date. Securing accommodation and completing the visa application procedure (non-EEA) can take some time. Late applications can make it harder to ensure you can start on your intended start date.
