Who can apply for a room in the university residences?

  • Both exchange students and international degree students can apply for housing in the university residences.
  • During the allocation process, students staying in Antwerp for one full semester will get priority.

How to apply for a room in a university residence?

How to apply

Incoming exchange students will automatically receive a message with more information on housing and how to apply for a residence once their application in Mobility Online, for their exchange at UAntwerpen,  has been accepted.

International degree students will be informed about the application process through the newsletter about housing, provided to them by the International Students Office.

Please keep in mind that the demand is often larger than the offer, so applying does not guarantee a stay in one of our residences.

How does the allocation process work?

When assigning the rooms in our university residences, the demand is often larger than the offer. Therefore, a selection must be made. There is no 'first come, first served' principle, so the time at which you apply for a room does not affect your chances of staying at a residence. In order to give as many different students as possible a chance to stay in our residences, the university selects students with the sole purpose of making a mix that is as diverse as possible.

Diversity is found in mixing as many different home universities, fields of study and faculties as possible.

When will I receive more information about my housing application?

You will receive more information about your housing request between the following deadlines:

Students arriving in the first semester (autumn):

  • Between the 30th of May and the 15th of July.  If you haven’t received any news concerning your housing application by the first week of July please contact the International Student Housing Office for a status update.

Students arriving in the second semester (spring):

  • Between the 21st of November and the 15th of December. If you haven’t received any news concerning your housing application by the first week of December please contact the International Student Housing Office or a status update.
