De Kern is a theatre and concert hall near the Bist. With its varied programme, it aims to be the cultural heart of Wilrijk.
At De Kern, you can enjoy comedy shows, author readings, concerts and high-quality theatre. Variety is key, which is why the programme is broad and diverse. De Kern also screens thought-provoking and moving films every week. Cinema De Kern is the third-largest cinema and cultural centre of its kind in Flanders, offering at least two digital screenings a week – without the unpleasant smell of lukewarm popcorn.
Almost every week, De Kern presents exciting theatre performances for all ages. Its musical programme ranges from Flemish cabaret and pop to world jazz. A broad educational programme of lectures, workshops and long-term courses also involves many lesser-known associations from Wilrijk.
De Kern regularly organises activities at other locations, including the Community Centre on the Bist, Bist Library, local service centres and Wilrijk’s many beautiful parks.
