• How do I join a student association?
It’s easy. Visit the page of the association you are interested in and register through its website, or talk to its members at Unifair at the start of the academic year. You can also visit the associations’ stands during Campus Kick-Off and Students on Stage in September.
• Do I have to pay a membership fee?
Most associations charge a small annual membership fee of around ten euros. The exact amount varies between associations and often gives you access to benefits, discounts or activities.
• Can I participate without being a member?
That depends on the activity. Many activities are also open to non-members, while others are exclusively for members. Always check the association’s website or social media.
• Do I have to live in student accommodation to join?
Not at all. Commuter students are also very welcome to join a student association. The associations are open to all students. Only certain associations, such as Campinaria, are specifically aimed at students interested in life in student accommodation.
• Do I have to study the same subject as the association represents?
Not always. Some associations are connected to a particular study programme or faculty, while others focus on culture, sports or a specific theme. Students from other study programmes are often welcome too.
• Do I have to take part in an initiation ceremony?
No. Not every association organises an initiation or welcoming ritual, and participation is not always compulsory. Feel free to contact the association if you have any questions about this. Find out more
