Renewal of the single permit
The International Staff Office will apply for a new single permit as soon as the application for the extension of your appointment has been submitted to the HR Department.
Please keep in mind that renewal applications can take several months. We recommend that supervisors start the renewal procedure with the HR Department three to four months before the end date of your current employment contract.
After your single permit is fully approved, the International Staff Office can assist you with the renewal of the residence permit.

PhD students, including doctoral scholarship holders, should contact the Students Office to find out about their renewal procedure.
If you are staying in Belgium for an extended period, your residence permit must be renewed.
In order to apply for an extension of your residence permit, your work permit or single permit needs to be extended first.
The International Staff Office can apply to have your residence permit extended if you live in Antwerp or one of its districts. Please make sure to contact them once your single permit is fully approved. Do not start this application yourself if you live in Antwerp, otherwise the International Staff Office cannot take over your file anymore.
If you don’t live in Antwerp, you will need to contact the local city hall in your place of residence to start the renewal procedure.
Once you have collected your residence permit, please send us a copy to complete your HR file and allow us to follow up on the renewal process for your residence permit.
