12 December 2023, Concertgebouw Brugge

Organised by Barbara T'Jonck, Renata Epifanio Lamenza & Pascal Gielen (ARIA)

Identity is becoming increasingly important in the arts: gender, colour, sexual preference... Influential festivals are now thematising identity politics. Programming is becoming more diverse, but also increasingly vulnerable. It is easy to take art criticism personally. Art critics are therefore faced with challenges. How to criticise the Other? How to judge revealed vulnerabilities? How to weigh artistic quality against social problems? How to judge at a time when almost every judgement could be taken as indicating prejudice?
