23 October 2026, Royal Conservatoire Antwerp
Initiated by Renata Lamenza Epifanio
Gambiarra is a Brazilian word that resists a fixed definition. As discussed by Sabrina Sedlmayer, it may refer to “improvised solutions to problems, generally precarious and provisional” and, in Tupi-Guarani, to “a provisional camp in an unknown territory.”
As a part of Renata’s PhD research, 'Corpo-Gambiarra: Dance, Costume and Politics of the Body', this workshop explores gambiarra as a provisional embodied state emerging from the encounter between Dance and Costume. Within the methodology The Moving Costume: Bodies as Playgrounds (TMCBP), participants explore shifting relations between subject, object, and human and non-human bodies through improvisation, drawing, material assembly, and movement. Costume, body, dance, and matter become flexible, shifting territories—movente.
