ST_ART is a collaborative initiative fostering connections between art and science to address society's most pressing challenges. Spearheaded by former Vice-Rector Ronny Blust, the initiative is dedicated to nurturing a dynamic platform for creative and innovative transdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Antwerp.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that by bringing together scientists and artists, we can tackle complex challenges more effectively, encouraging them to explore shared themes and pool their expertise. We believe that by harnessing the unique perspectives, creativity, and knowledge of both disciplines, we can unlock new insights and solutions that transcend traditional boundaries.
Through facilitating meaningful connections between artists and scientists in collaborative research projects, we seek to explore innovative approaches to societal issues while promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange.
We focus on three key research clusters:
Art and Ecology
Exploring the intricate relationships between art, ecology and science to develop active strategies to foster ecological awareness, create positive change, and physically transform ecologies.
Art and Health: HeArts
Examining the intersection of art and mental and physical health and contribute to holistic approaches to health and well-being.
Art and Technology
Exploring the intersection of art and technology to fuel innovation and drive transitions towards more creative, ethical and sustainable futures
Seed funding available!
In order to facilitate the collaboration between different scientific disciplines and the arts, ST_ART allocates a working budget of €25,000 to each of three clusters. The goal is to fund initiatives leading to project applications (Horizon Europe, ERC, Creative Europe, FWO, BOF, etc.). The seed fund can support different types of collaborative initiatives such as workshops, invitation of (inter)national experts and other collaborative actions aimed towards the preparation of larger projects and fostering sustainable interactions between participating groups. The maximum requested budget is €5,000, and the duration ranges from 6 to 24 months. At least one partner from the University of Antwerp and one from a partner School of Arts (Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, Royal Academy Antwerp, or Sint Lucas Antwerp) must be involved for a ST_ART application to be eligible for funding.
