Antwerp's unique innovation ecosystem in vaccination and infectious diseases aims to consolidate its strengths. Vaccinopolis is our answer to the clear need within the ecosystem for more research into infectious diseases and vaccines. We have developped a global facility for clinical studies, with the necessary accommodation for volunteers, adapted laboratories, state-of-the-art diagnostics, and biobank facilities. By focusing on translational research and multidisciplinary collaborations, Vaccinopolis will significantly improve and accelerate the development of new vaccines and/or therapies for infectious diseases.

Within the Antwerp region, we have a series of unique projects and partners with world-class expertise in infectious disease and vaccine research: from UAntwerp to the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITG), the pharmaceutical companies, UZA and the hospital umbrella organisations, the SMEs on diagnostics, the collaborations with other universities in immunology, vaccine studies and diagnostics, and the hospital networks with their large patient populations.

Without a doubt the know-how of the University of Antwerp will definitely contribute to creating more multidisciplinary solutions that generate an impact on human health and the environment. Within the framework of environmental health, research is carried out into air and water quality. Fundamental insights about exposure and effects are combined with human and ecological monitoring to arrive at strategies for better health and the environment.

The Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development of the University of Antwerp, known by its Dutch acronym IMDO, combines expertise from the various disciplines on the environment and sustainable development. IMDO is active in education and research. IMDO has a pronounced interdisciplinary and transversal focus, and wants to make an active contribution to the transition to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable society and economy.
