Johanna Vanderstraeten is Assistant Professor of (International) Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She obtained her PhD in Applied Economics at the University of Antwerp, and was a visiting PhD researcher at the Entrepreneurship Center of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP) in São Paulo, Brazil. She studied Business Engineering (master, University of Antwerp, Belgium), Didactics for Economics (Academic Teacher Training, University of Antwerp, Belgium) and attended professionalization courses such as the International Teachers Programme (ITP), organized by London Business School (UK).
Johanna conducts research in the field of (international) entrepreneurship and worked on various government related and company projects. She provided policy makers with advice, and developed company coaching programs. She has a particular interest in the development of entrepreneurial intentions (e.g. student entrepreneurship), the growth and development process of start-ups and SMEs (stimulated by, e.g. organizational sponsorship programs such as business incubators), and the impact of the individual entrepreneur on these intentions and development, in particular in an international setting.
Her research is published in academic journals including Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Business Research, Industrial Marketing Management, and Technovation, and she acts as the chair of the Commission of Entrepreneurship of the University of Antwerp.
