Short Bio
Steven De Haes, PhD, is Full Professor of Digital Governance at the University of Antwerp's Faculty of Business and Economics and Antwerp Management School.
His expertise spans digital strategy and governance, with a particular focus on digital governance and management, strategic business–IT alignment, digital value and performance management, digital assurance and audit, and digital risk and cybersecurity. He teaches at undergraduate, graduate, executive, and doctoral levels and serves as Academic Director of the Executive Master in Digital Leadership and Transformation.
Professor De Haes has published extensively in leading international peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents his research at prominent academic and professional conferences. He is co-author and editor of several books, including Enterprise Governance of IT: Achieving Strategic Alignment and Value (Springer, 2009, 2015, 2020, 2025) and Governing Digital Transformation: Guidance for Corporate Board Members (Springer, 2020).
Between 2008 and 2018, he held several senior leadership positions at Antwerp Management School, including Director of Research, Associate Dean of Master Programs, and Associate Dean of Faculty. From 2018 to 2026, he served as Dean of Antwerp Management School.
Alongside his academic career, Professor De Haes is a keynote speaker, advisor, and executive coach. He supports boards, executives, and organizations in strengthening digital governance, optimizing digital strategy, improving digital risk management and assurance, and realizing value from digital transformation. In this context, he also serves in advisory and governing bodies in organizations. He has also made significant contributions to the development of the internationally recognized COBIT framework, serving as both researcher and co-author.
