KADOC, a Documentation and Research Center on Religion, Culture and Society holds approximately 20.000 positives in 120 boxes, donated by Catholic congregations in Flanders and Wallonia. Its slides cover almost all of the Church’s activities, from missions to catechist education, (moralising) entertainment, and religious propaganda. Several boxes also contain artworks and educational drawing- and painting lesson-slides, belonging to Belgian amateur photographer Joseph Casier (1852-1925). Only a very limited number of slides in this collection can be attributed to commercial manufacturers (E. Mazo, Radiguet & Massiot, Maison de la Bonne Presse etc.), while an impressive number of glass plates appear to be hand-made, possibly with the support of local photographers.
