The collection of Historical photographs of the RMAH contains several thousands of photographic slides covering topics such as art history, archaeology, geography and ethnography. This educational slide collection has its origin in the educational service of the museum, founded in 1922. On top of that, the collection contains hand-painted and printed lantern slides, of which a large number have been digitized and can be found in the online museum catalogue: www.carmentis.be.  Various types of magic lanterns, from toy lanterns to professional projection lanterns dating from the nineteenth until the twentieth century, are conserved in the ‘Photography and cinema’ collection of the museum.
