2nd VLIR-UOS ICP North Workshop Master of Statistics and Master of Epidemiology

On May 9th, 2019, the Global Health Institute (University of Antwerp) organized the 2nd International Course Program (ICP) North Workshop of the ICP’s Master of Statistics (MStat, UHasselt) and Master of Epidemiology (MEPI, UAntwerp).

After highlighting the goals and initiatives of both ICP programs, four alumni and research partners were invited to share their experiences, career paths, research activities and collaboration opportunities in their settings: Hung Le Xuan (Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam), Osvaldo Loquiha (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique), Geofrey Musinguzi (Makerere University, Uganda) and Jane Achan Edwin (Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia).

A debate was held entitled: “How to develop a career after a MEPI/MSTAT or PhD diploma? Challenges & opportunities” where topics like mentorship, role models and visibility were discussed in an inspiring way.

VLIR-UOS offers International Course Program (ICP) scholarships for students from resource poor settings for these Masters.  MStat, since 1993, and MEPI, since 2007, offer programs adapted to the specific needs and interests of statisticians and epidemiologists in resource poor setting in an integrated environment.
