If you want to start a PhD first you have to think about which topic you would like to research. Maybe you already have a very specific subject in mind, but also if you only have a field of research in your mind, you can already start your PhD-plans.

The next step is to find one or more supervisor(s). In order to do so, first determine the discipline and the faculty in which you would like to pursue your PhD. The University of Antwerp has 9 faculties, as well as 20 institutes and 48 related centres.

If you do not have a supervisor in mind yet, you can check the overview of the different research units at the University of Antwerp or the 'Find an expert' search tool. If you find a suitable supervisor, you contact this person directly and ask if he/she would like to supervise your PhD research. You then also further define the subject of your doctoral thesis together with this supervisor.

You can also ask the administrative contact person of the faculty you wish to conduct your PhD in for help to find a supervisor.
