The Laboratory of Microbiology, Parasitology and Hygiene (LMPH) is an interdepartmental research group at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Antwerp.

LMPH can be divided into two major domains: Parasitology and Respiratory Infections. If you want to know more about these domains you can click the appropriate action button.

  • Laura Dirkx obtained her public PhD defense with the topic: Characterizing the bone marrow as a parasitological niche responsible for antileishmanial treatment failure (link)
  • Marlies Boeren obtained her public PhD defense with the topic: Antiviral immune response dynamics during varicella-zoster virus infection in a human iPSC-derived neuronal model and in herpes zoster patients. (link)
  • Dorien Mabille obtained her public PhD defense with the topic: Towards novel treatment options for human and animal trypanosomiasis: from mechanistic insights in antiparasitic compounds to immunological aspects of early infection.(link)
  • Juliana Aizawa obtained her PhD with the topic: Biofilm-related pneumonia : evaluation of anti-infective devices and in vivo bacterial persistence (link)
  • Sarah Hendrickx from our group obtained the academic award Vandendriessche in the field of medicine and biomedical sciences (UAntwerpen), which was granted by our university’s Research Board  for her contribution to the field of parasitology.
  • Prof. dr. Guy Caljon receives the Merial Award 2017 for his research in parasitology, particularly for his work on insect-transmitted parasitic infections. (link)
