Timmy De Laet is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance at the University of Antwerp and the Research Centre for Visual Poetics. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) with a research project titled “Transatlantic Currencies,” which investigates the exchange and circulation of choreographic knowledge and dance works across the Atlantic Ocean during the postwar period (1958-1991). With the support of the Fulbright Commission and the Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F.), Timmy has worked as a Visiting Scholar and Adjunct Faculty Member at Temple University’s Dance Department and Institute of Dance Scholarship (Philadelphia, PA, USA). He has been a Visiting Professor at Ghent University and a guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.
Timmy received his PhD from the University of Antwerp, with a dissertation on re-enactment in European contemporary dance. His research interests include the reiterative nature of dance and performance in relation to archivization, documentation, and historiography. He has published on these topics in journals as Performance Research, Tanz, and Muséologies, as well as in the edited collections Performing Memory in Art and Popular Culture (Routledge, 2013), Moments: A History of Performance in 10 Acts (ZKM, 2013), The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Reenactment (Oxford University Press, 2017), and The Routledge Companion to Dance Studies (Routledge, 2020).
Other recent publications include the co-edited volume The Great European Stage Directors, Vol. 8: Pina Bausch, Romeo Castellucci, Jan Fabre (with Luk Van den Dries, Bloomsbury Methuen Drama, 2018), the guest-edited special issue “State of the Art”: Contemporary and Historical Perspectives on Theater Studies in Flanders (Documenta, 2019), and the FORUM+ Dossier on "Dance and Research" (2019).
