Characterization of the p38 MAPK pathway in the expression of TME proteases

Supervisors: Dr. Ana Cuenda and Dr. Juan José Sanz

Hi, my name is Alberto, I did my Master's degree in Biology Applied to Research in Biomedicine at University of Milan (IT), during this period I worked at my thesis project at European Institute of Oncology in Manzo Lab, and I immediately realized that cancer research is what I want to do in my life. Therefore, after my graduation, I moved to Yale University (USA), in Muschen Lab, where I worked for one year as Postgraduate Associate studying the Peripheral T cell Lymphoma development.

To perform my PhD, I decided to come back to Europe. I found in OncoProTools Network the best possibility to exploit my background, to increase my knowledge and to satisfy my desire to do research. I've been selected by Ana Cuenda, for the OncoProTools-DC6, so I'm currently a PhD fellow, working in Centro Nacional de Biotecnologia (CNB), Madrid. In my project I will focus on fibroblast activation protein (FAP) and tumor microenvironment (TME) proteases cathepsins S, L and B, and how their expression is modulated by the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. This is essential to stratify patient cohorts in subgroups based on the TME protease they express, and to allow personalized proteases-targeting.
