Women, science and Antarctica: Towards a sustainable leadership

Prof. Dr. Gudrun de Boeck will give a talk about her Antarctica experience the past year entitled "Women, science and Antarctica: Towards a sustainable leadership".

Project "De Droge Delta" won Henri van de Velde Award 2024

On January 23, 2024, the project "De Droge Delta" won the bronze medal at the Henry van de Velde Awards 2024 in the design research category. Prof. Jan Staes took part in this design study of spatial levers in the fight against water scarcity in Flanders.​

Thimo Groffen won the Frans Verbeure Award

On November 30, 2023, Dr. Thimo Groffen received the Frans Verbeure award from the Research Board of the University of Antwerp for his research on PFAS in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. His research mainly focuses on the biomonitoring of PFAS in these ecosystems, as well as the ecological and human health risks associated with the accumulation of PFAS in such matrices. 

ECOSPHERE Professors bag top rankings in Belgium's best scientists list

Prof. Lieven Bervoets and Prof. Patrick Meire clinched top spots in the latest edition of the ranking of best scientists published by Research.com. In the list of leading Belgian scientists, Prof. Bervoets ranked 14th in the field of Environmental Sciences whereas Prof. Meire got the 15th spot in the Ecology and Evolution arena.

Professor Gudrun De Boeck (UAntwerp) will start an intensive Australian course this month that will eventually take her on an expedition to Antarctica, accompanied exclusively by top international women scientists. Through the Homeward Bound programme, she is helping to promote a more diverse, inclusive and sustainable world.
