Centre of Expertise on Sustainable Chemistry at KdG University - CESC

Jeroen Geuens leads the Centre of Expertise on Sustainable Chemistry at KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The Centre was established with the specific purpose to conduct research and provide services related to sustainable chemicals and production processes. Currently the Centre comprises a team of 7 researchers.

The Centre of Expertise on Sustainable Chemistry focuses primarily on (1) the valorisation of biomass, preferably waste streams, by means of the extraction of high value organic compounds and (2) the use of artificial intelligence to optimize chemical products and processes.

Expertise and research focus lines:

  • Synthesis of sustainable chemicals.
  • Valorisation of side streams (giving waste streams a second life).
  • Optimisation and 'greening' of existing chemical reactions and processes.
  • Design of new (green) analysis techniques and optimisation of existing techniques.
  • Artificial intelligence to optimize chemical processes/products
