Honorary degrees

On Thursday 2 April 2020 at 4 p.m. the University of Antwerp will formally confer its honorary degrees.

Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish, founder of 'Daughters for Life', will receive an honorary degree in recognition of his contributions to the empowerment of girls and young women through education and five international researchers will receive an honorary degree for scientific merit. 

The ceremony will be preceded by masterclasses led by the honorary doctors.

Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish
Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish will receive an honorary degree for general merit in recognition of his contributions to the empowerment of girls and young women through education, which will allow them to become agents of change for the betterment of life throughout the Middle East.

Prof Anne Lacaton and Prof Jean-Philippe Vassal will receive an honorary degree in recognition of their expertise in the field of architecture.

Prof Jane Mansbridge
Prof Jane Mansbridge will receive an honorary degree in recognition of her expertise in the field of political science, more particularly democratic representation.

Em Prof Onora O’Neill will receive an honorary degree in recognition of her expertise in the field of ethics and political philosophy, and in recognition of her substantial philosophical contributions to public debate.

Prof Christine Petit
Prof Christine Petit will receive an honorary degree in recognition of her role in elucidating key molecular mechanisms of hearing, paving the way for the development of better treatments for hearing loss.
