Design and monitoring of a WORG area for climate-adaptive flood retention

Living Lab Kleine Struisbeek aims to transform the planned Water-Sensitive Open Space Area (WORG) along the Kleine Struisbeek on the Drie Eiken Campus into an open-air laboratory for climate adaptation. Through design, monitoring, and research, we investigate how a small stream valley can contribute to water retention, groundwater recharge, biodiversity enhancement, and climate-resilient campus development. In collaboration with the Province of Antwerp and other partners, we are creating a practice-oriented demonstration site where research, education, and nature-based solutions come together. The project is intended to become an inspiring example of sustainable water management in an urbanized environment.
