Frequently Asked Questions

I’m planning to follow the Think Water programme, where can I find information on Visa/Belgian residency?

Please visit the university webpage: https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/life-in-antwerp/visa-and-permits/

Is it possible to combine work and Think Water?

Yes! It is quite common for Belgian students to combine work and study within the programme, they oftentimes spread the programme across multiple years. International students need to be mindful that your Belgian residence permit remains an all deciding factor whether you can combine work and study, oftentimes mandating that you need to study full-time. For more information on residency and visa requirements, please visit the university webpage: https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/life-in-antwerp/visa-and-permits/

The workload depends on your personal study trajectory. There is no standard track for working students — you decide the order and distribution of your courses across years. If you spread the programme over multiple years, keep in mind that each yearly enrolment includes afixed administrative fee . We strongly recommend discussing your study plan in advance with the programme coordinator and the study trajectory advisor.

Can I complete the programme modularly or over multiple years?

Yes. You may spread the programme over several years and design your own trajectory based on your personal and professional situation (for international students, this is generally not possible depending on your residence permit).

We do recommend discussing your plan with the programme coordinator and the study counsellor beforehand to ensure feasibility. Keep in mind that extending your studies increases overall enrolment costs due to the annual administrative fee

Is there a fixed weekly study workload or are there peak periods for working students to take into account?

You can expect several peak moments throughout the year, such as:

  • Exam periods (January and June);
  • In the first semester nearly every course has at least one mandatory day to attend (excursion attendance is mandatory);
  • The second semester, depending on practicalities of your master dissertation;
  • Intensive course weeks (e.g. the two weeks of Case River 21 in late March).

Is hybrid or online participation possible? Are lectures recorded?

Many lectures are recorded to support working students. If you need a recording, you are encouraged to check the course description  (click on the course name and have a look under teaching methods) and contact the responsible lecturer. Our teaching staff does their very best to accommodate you and record their lectures to the best of their ability.

However, also be aware that the programme is not offered as a fully online degree. Certain activities — such as excursions or specific course components — require mandatory on‑campus participation.

Attendance to a lecture is generally not compulsory (but of course strongly advised), choosing not to attend is your own responsibility (i.e. if there is a malfunction of the recording facilities, you can only depend on the availability of PowerPoint slides and course material).

Is there support available for working students?

Yes. Working students can receive personalised study‑trajectory guidance from the study counsellor and programme coordinator. Additional support and advice are available through Centrum West, the university’s service for working students.

Can I follow just one or a few courses?

Yes, you can follow a select number of courses of your choice instead of the full-time programme. Advanced master's courses need to be followed under a diploma contract in combination with a ‘professional track’, allowing part-time participation of professionals and working students.  After, successful completion of the course, you can request a credit certificate.
