About the lecture
In September 2025 prof. dr. Stephen Billett published his most recent book “Learning through work. Practices, purposes and outcomes” .Drawing on three decades of practical investigations, this book establishes new understandings about the importance of learning through work, outlining its purposes, contributions, conceptions and the curriculum, pedagogical and personal practices that shape its effectiveness. During ths FSW lecture, prof. dr. Billett will share some of the key insights from the book with the audience.
About the speaker

Dr Stephen Billett is a Professor of Adult and Vocational Education in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. He is also a National Teaching Fellow and an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow. Following an early career in garment manufacturing, he transitioned into roles as a vocational educator, educational administrator, teacher educator, professional development practitioner, and policy developer within the Australian vocational education system. Since joining Griffith University as a teacher and researcher, Dr. Billett has extensively investigated learning through and for work, publishing widely on workplace learning, the learning of occupations, and conceptual accounts of vocational education.
