The formal presentation of the honorary doctorates is one of the academic highlights at the University of Antwerp.

Of course, there is the official ceremony, but it does not stop there: the honorary doctorates also give a master class, sharing their expertise with Antwerp scientists, students and the professional field.

In 2025, the honorary doctorates were awarded on 20 March.

Who deserves an honorary doctorate in 2026? 

This academic year, we awarded the Honorary Doctorate for General Merit to Hetty Helsmoortel and Lieven Scheire – two voices who make science accessible to a broad audience.
