Experience Library IVEBECA, St-Bernardusabdij Hemiksem
Research assignment bachelor's thesis in collaboration with vzw Kempens Landschap, library network IVEBECA (Hemiksem, Schelle, Niel) and the municipality of Hemiksem. The research context concerns the redevelopment of the southern wing of the protected monument St-Bernardus Abbey in Hemiksem with a focus on the realization of an experience library.
Research questions.
Through research by design, new insights are generated regarding following questions:
1) how can interior architects translate, in a constructive way, obtained policy insights from municipalities and socio-cultural institutions (local target groups) into spatial designs?
2) how can a redevelopment program 'experience bib' contribute to the revival of the whole abbey site
3) in view of the historic and protected status of building and interiors, which spatial tools can interior architects use in the realization of an experience library?
Impact.
10.09.2017: Public exhibition 'best practices' in the abbey, in the framework of the Open Monumentendag Vlaanderen.
Students have included the project in their studies as a research reference to the challenges for libraries of the future
