Dissolution of Universities, the violation of academic freedom and the right to education in Nicaragua

An event was held to commemorate the celebration of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between The Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp and the International Network for Human Rights Europe (RIDHE). The event concerned the dissolution of Nicaraguan universities and related human rights violations in Nicaragua. The educational crisis in Nicaragua has further worsened since the protests in April 2018. Currently, the legal status of 28 universities and 2000 associations has been revoked. As a result more than 70,000 students have been exiled. Speakers from different backgrounds provided their views on the importance of protecting academic freedom and the right to education in Nicaragua in this context.
