Een eerder informele workshop, waarin deelnemers Henri Bloemen, Jan Gielkens, Vivian Liska, Ton Naaijkens, Jan Roelans en Dirk Van Hulle een korte uiteenzetting houden over het vertalen van poëzie in het algemeen, gekoppeld aan of geïllustreerd met een concreet gedicht van Paul Celan. Elk van die korte uiteenzettingen wordt gevolgd door een bespreking en discussie, waaraan alle aanwezigen kunnen deelnemen.

Iedereen is van harte welkom, hetzij als toehoorder, hetzij als participant aan de besprekingen en discussies. Aan studenten, schrijvers, vertalers, germanisten  willen we deze workshop warm aanbevelen.

Today an urgent question is whether freedom and the arts still keep company, whether--to phrase it institutionally--political thought does not require, and more urgently than ever, aesthetic education... At the same time, literature is becoming less the object of literary study than of an informal sociology or politology [using] socioeconomic categories, particularly class, gender, race, and property relations, to inspect works of art as 'products' of a certain form of social life... The motivation of most of these analyses is social justice, and the field established by them is what we call cultural studies. But where do we find, together with that social awareness,... inventiveness, playfulness, and art-centeredness? We all share the aim of social justice; the quarrel is about the means to that end.
