Movement Antwerp

MOVANT - the research group that gets people to move, explore and grow

MOVANT brings together researchers, clinicians and society to investigate how movement is affected by disease, injury, ageing and lifetyle - and how rehabilitation and technology can help people move better. We study how people move, why movement is affected by disease or injury, and how movement can be measured and improved - from childhood to old age. As such, we are dedicated to movement, rehabilitation and improvement of quality of life.

Explore our 3 focus domains clustering our research:

  • MetaMove - MOVE & METABOLISM - How do metabolism, muscle, skin, blood and lymphatic systems influence health?
  • MoveAdapt - MOVE & ADAPT - How does the body adapt to exercise, disease and rehabilitation?
  • MoveMe - MOVE & MEASURE - How can we measure movement and motor control?

We study movement from different perspectives: How can we predict recovery? How can we measure movement (problems) more accurately? Which rehabilitation strategies work best and why? And how can technology help patients move better?

Explore our research laboratories that support our focus domains:

  • M2OCEAN (Movement analysis lab) - see movement in a completely different way
  • M2RUN (Exercise physiology & metabolic lab) - measure what happens inside the body during exercise
  • M²SENS (Sensoric functioning lab) - turn human function into measurable data
