Sustainable mobility is a leading paradigm in transport research and policy. One of the topics that attracts considerable attention is the modal split of cities. A critical assessment was made of several ways to measure the modal split of urban areas and a new approach was proposed. Furthermore, the research group is involved in the citizen science project ‘Straatvinken’ in which more than 1,500 citizens counted traffic ( Finally, several sustainable mobility initiatives are discussed by members of the Research Group for Urban Development.
