Aleksandra is a PhD candidate in Architecture and Urban Planning at Gdansk University of Technology (since October 2024) and currently a Visiting Researcher at the University of Antwerp. Her research examines how flood-prone landscapes near city centers, especially polders, can be reimagined as multifunctional spaces that strengthen climate resilience while responding to contemporary socio-economic transformations.
In 2023, she obtained her Master’s degree at Gdansk University of Technology. Her award-winning thesis, recognized by the Mayor of Gdansk as the best diploma project of the year, proposed the revitalization of one of Gdańsk’s polders by reconnecting it with surrounding neighborhoods and activating historical fortifications as community-building structures.
Alongside her academic work, Aleksandra is a licensed architect, specializing in residential design and running her own architectural studio.
Favorite (place in the) city
My favorite place is the park along the Motlawa River in Gdansk. Just five minutes from the historic city center, it feels surprisingly quiet and remote. Located within former defensive fortifications designed by Dutch engineers, it combines layered history with open landscapes and water.
