Josefien obtained a master's degree in architectural engeneering (2021) from Ghent University and a master's degree in Human Settlements (2023) from KU Leuven. In 2024, she started working as a researcher for the Design Sciences Hub. She specialises in mobility-related projects, with a focus on transport poverty, job accessibility, active travel and sustainable mobility.
In July 2025, she will start a PhD at the University of Antwerp. The PhD focuses on how European climate policies related to energy and mobility offer both opportunities and challenges in spatial terms. More specifically, the research explores how spatial policies can contribute to both climate goals and social equity, with a particular focus on low-income groups, accessibility, the role of cycling in rural areas and the potential of public transport and decentralised energy systems.

Favorite (place in the) city?
My favorite spot in the city is any cozy little square with a few nice cafés, where you can sit, people-watch, and soak up the city's vibrant atmosphere.
