Content
Target group and objectives:
PhD students who write articles in English. The course teaches participants how to write correct and transparent English papers. As a result they will feel more confident when writing papers in English in the future.
Content:
The course describes the build-up of a good paper and concentrates on improving the participants' use of English by focusing on typical grammatical problems and the use of academic vocabulary and structures. Furthermore, participants will receive personal feedback on all texts they hand in. Consequently, the course does not only provide useful reference materials for future use, but it also focuses on participants' individual problems.
Method:
The theory will be taught and practised using relevant examples (text extracts). Furthermore, participants will be given (short) writing assignments on which the lecturer will give them individual feedback. This gives participants the opportunity to focus on projects they are working on.
The coursebook was developed by Linguapolis using our experience with similar courses, error analyses of student research papers and course feedback by students who followed the course in the past. As a result, the course meets the needs of the target group perfectly.
