Getting the right things done properly can be difficult when we also consider the limited time available and the challenges that require confident responses, rather than avoidance and procrastination.

In our training offer we have 2 courses on Personal Effectiveness with more or less the same content. However, the courses are taught by a different trainer, and differ in time commitment. The short version (12 h) is given online anyway and the long workshop (21 h) is given on campus. While there may be some differences in content, it is pointless to take both courses. So choose the course according to your preference of location and time commitment. Below you find the detailed information per course.

Personal Effectiveness - 21h course

This course will help young researchers to cope better with the available working time by creating insight of the principles, techniques and methods of time management and personal organization, taking into account the specific situation of the university.

​After completing the training, participants will be able to:

  • setting goals (S.M.A.R.T.)
  • maintain better Priorities
  • add structure in the workplace
  • work from the "clean desk" principle
  • deal more effective with failures and interruptions
  • identify time rovers and consciously tackle improvement
  • monitor responsibilities more efficiently
  • say "no" on an assertive way
  • forget less
  • create peace in their heads
  • keep their message traffic under control
  • e-mail more efficiently
  • use their (electronic) agenda to the fullest.

Personal Effectiveness - 12h course

This workshop introduces tools and approaches to review how you spend your time and energy, allowing you to make conscious decisions and motivate yourself to respond to challenges. We add in practical tools for overcoming procrastination and developing motivation and apply these to real situations you bring along. 

By the end of these workshops, you will have addressed the following objectives:

  • Know how to apply course content to real situations and through personalised actions
  • Be aware of personal drivers and know how to develop motivation
  • Be able to identify personal and professional priorities and values
  • Know how to use evidence-based tools to set compelling goals
  • Have insight into your ‘map’ of procrastination and ideas to get back into action
  • Understand and manage the perceptions that affect your choices about effectiveness
  • Use models to understand, and to prioritise, your use of time and energy
  • Have an understanding of models of motivation
  • Be able to use processes for motivation and response to challenge
